Eight Hacks For Staging Your Home

Eight Hacks For Staging Your Home

There is a lot of work that goes into staging your home for the market. It may seem overwhelming to stage every room, but you can get through it without breaking the bank or stressing yourself out. To help you get started, here are eight hacks for staging your home.

Clear The Clutter: Clearing out the clutter may not be the quickest hack for staging your home, but it is a step you cannot afford to skip. Get rid of the items that are unused, damaged or expired. The items you are keeping should be organized. Use your storage ottoman or drawers to hide items such as mail and magazines. You want to make sure your home is presentable to your buyers.

Remove Personal Items: You are staging your home to appeal to your buyers, so you need to remove personal items such as photographs, heirlooms and posters. It is also important to remove controversial decor that could upset your buyers. All you have to do is pack these items away until you move into your new home.

Hide Big Furniture: Part of staging your home is making the rooms feel spacious to your buyers. Bulky furniture can make the room feel small and crammed, so you want to place those pieces in storage until you move. You should also hide excess furniture such as your shoe bench or extra end table.

Hide Certain Items: There are certain items that should be hidden when staging your home, such as your toiletries. You can hide them in a container under the sink or in a closet. You should also hide the small appliances in your kitchen. Using your toaster or coffee maker to enhance your counter never hurts, but you do not want to clutter your counter with appliances. Show your buyers how the bathroom and kitchen can be organized.

Mow The Lawn: Your exterior needs to be just as presentable as your interior. A quick way to change up your exterior is to mow the lawn. Your buyers are sure to take you seriously when they see a well-trimmed yard. It does not take long to mow your lawn, so you could mow it one or two days before your open house. Stay on top of your lawn care by mowing it regularly or hiring a professional to mow it.

Power Wash Your Exterior: You should also power wash your siding, deck or porch before your open house. Sometimes a good sweeping and scrubbing is just what you need to make your exterior look presentable. If you have a big job ahead of you with little time to spare, you can use a pressure washer to clean your exterior in a timely manner.

Get A Welcome Mat: A simple welcome mat can go a long way when staging your home. You can find welcome mats in a variety of designs, but you should choose one in a neutral color to appeal to all buyers. There is something about a welcome mat that ties your exterior together and makes your buyers feel welcome.

Work With Your Space: If you are limited on time or money, it is best to work with your space when staging your home. Start by switching to neutral decor and paint colours, and take care of simple repairs such as fixing a broken tile or sticking door. You can also wash your windows, replace your towels and add some plants.

There is more to staging your home than just impressing your buyers. You want to make it easy for them to imagine their life in this home.
